Three shows down and two to go... NOONAMAH RODEO series is tallying the points and we are at the half way mark for the ultimate win, across the entire Noonamah Series!
There were wins and losses.
And there were rides that took cowboys straight to the emergency room! But the crowds loved every bloody, sweaty, dusty minute of it!
But not all the fun was had by the grown ups... The bucking ponies put on a wild show as well, and Darwin crowds were priveledged enough to see a glimpse into what the future of rodeo has to offer, with some exciting young juniors to watch!
Dallis Livestock did it again - with feature bull Guns n Roses maintaining his unridden title, bucking off Bryden Atkins with venom in his horns!
Guns n Roses: He came. He bucked. And he strutted out of the arena.
All round talent, Dallas Steele, singer songwriter and bull rider extraordinaire earned partial honours with Rnd 2 of the open bull ride, and an 81 point ride, seeing a cheque placed firmly in his hand! We'll be seeing more of Dallas come the October Rodeo, when he delights crowds again, but this time from the stage with some country tunes! Luke Davison shared the money with a 71 point in Rnd 1.
And while Dallas and Luke took home cheques, the Nar Nar Goon cowboy, Warren Coatman, was lucky to take home his ear after a run in with some rank rough stock!
FEATURE RIDER PROFILE:
SAM WOODALL - Jnr Bull rider, Bareback Pony rider
Hometown: Heywood, Victoria
When did you start? I started riding bulls at the age of 4.
Why did you start? Because I wanted to be like my dad, and my pop, and keep rodeo running through our family.
Do you have any mottos you live by? Don't really have one, I just do whatever makes everyone happy.
If you could have a beer with anyone, living or dead, who would it be? Well I don't drink at all, and don't plan to. But if I was to, I'd sink some runs with Jim Sharp or the Polaski boys (Jayden and Lachie).
Who do you see as the exciting competitor to watch out for in your event? There's plenty to name, but Donovan Rutherford, Zabe Brandenburg and fellas like that all ride really good and perform consistently. And also only new to the sport, Daniel Lynch, is very much a dark horse that can get the job done.
What's your funniest rodeo road story? Well I'm not going to go into too much detail. But if anyone wants to know, ask the Polaski boys what my driving was like on Easter weekend..
Name your favourite travel buddies: Polaski twins. Daniel Lynch, Bailey Polaski, Joe Down, Tanna Ireland, Jasoer Bowman and my brother Jack.
Would you like to give a shout out to anyone who's helped you along the way? Yes, big shout out to my mum and dad who have always supported me all the way. Always thinking positive even when I'm down. Geoff Down for organising rodeo trips and stuff like that. And nan and pop for just about everything. Always supporting me and bringing bulls in for me to practice on whenever I want, and also to anyone who has helped me along the way!
